This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

We present a test for partners in committed relationships who are fans of horror films: Sit down with your significant other and view Together. The independent film success of 2025 just made its launch on a streaming platform on the Hulu service. Outwardly, it could look like conventional physical horror, but inside Together lies a profound meditation about the ways we decide to love one another.

A Debut Feature Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together represents the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for a decade. Having wed in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie infuse a special spark to their characters, expertly portraying both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The plot commences when Tim and Millie move from the metropolis to the countryside for her career. A familiar plot device, of course, but that’s mostly where the cliches conclude. Together transforms into as much a psychological exploration of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their new home, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim fall into an subterranean cavern. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity takes hold of the duo. This force induces a otherworldly bond between them that goes well past typical partnership.

The whole movie is a methodically building fright fest, weaving in elements of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic dialogue (sometimes in the middle of something disturbing). The director weaves these elements together neatly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A significant portion of Together is exclusively the two lead actors, and they skillfully illustrate numerous complexities to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and feeling of intimacy is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his reluctance to pursue anything but his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve left the city and removed from his support system. He fears the concept of completely losing his personal autonomy in another person. This fear is intensified by the reality he does not operate a vehicle and needs Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together avoids making either of his characters the definite antagonist.

The couple grapple with the kind of problems that come with long-term unions over a long period. Deep down, they continue to care for each other. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But beneath it all, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their bond.

Allegory and Meaning

While the otherworldly presence in Together represent these fears of codependency and totally devoting oneself to another person, the symbolism avoids being hamfisted or heavy-handed. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes present a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama serve the other in harmony.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the movie's final takeaway about codependent relationships. It has been said that single viewers have understood the narrative as a strong argument for staying single. Meanwhile, some couples experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the ending plant anxiety and horror, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply turn to your significant other and utter, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can experience right now.

Together is available to watch on Hulu at present.
